Subject and Keywords:

social investments   social innovations   social change   Lower Silesia   forecasting the future

Abstract:

Social investments are aimed at adapting: countries, societies, regional and local communities, groups and individuals to the challenges arising from the changing economic, social and cultural environment. While these changes are often global in nature, their impact can be observed locally, so an effective response to their impact requires innovative and flexible solutions, tailored to the specifics of a given location and the characteristics of recipients of investment activities. This publication presents the results of the research project implementation: Social Investment as an innovative method of managing social change in the regional and national context in Poland, co-financed by the Local Government of Lower Silesian Voivodship. Analyses carried out within this framework confirm the thesis that social investments can be a response to social changes and be used by the states and other social policy entities as an innovative method of managing social change. Results presented in the scientific monograph show how economic, social, cultural, political and environmental trends, which driving forces have their source both in the region itself, but also beyond Lower Silesia, affect the quality of life, personal and professional development prospects or social situation of the region’s inhabitants. The results also indicate possible directions of transformations in the daily functioning of the regional community in the perspective of the next ten years. The scientific monograph co-financed by the Self-Government of the Lower Silesian Voivodship, is based on the application of research methods relating to forecasting the future, with the involvement of both researchers, students and PhD students of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wrocław. The publication is intended for students of social, law and economic faculties, political decision-makers, officials, scientists and experts interested in the issue of social development management. In addition, the authors hope that the book will reach the people responsible in their daily professional and social activity for creating conditions and processes of social development in Lower Silesia.
